On Friday, June 12, 2026, SMA Regina Caeli held a presentation showcasing the experiences and research findings for its Grade 11 Live In program in the school hall. Carrying the theme “The Journey of Learning and Empathy,” the event was attended by Grade 10 and Grade 8 students, teachers, representatives of the school foundation, and parents. Through this presentation, the students shared the results of their research and reflected on their experiences living in villages in Cariu, Bogor, for six days.
The event began with an enthusiastic opening by the MCs, followed by the singing of Indonesia Raya and the Regina Caeli School Anthem, as well as a prayer led by Mr. Manalu. In her opening remarks, Mrs. Ririn explained that the Live In program serves as an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge they learn in school to real-life situations while developing their character. Mr. Agus also highlighted the importance of gratitude, empathy, and adaptability. He emphasized that by experiencing village life firsthand, students learn to appreciate their own circumstances, understand the challenges faced by others, and prepare themselves to face different situations in the future.
Before the presentations began, the audience enjoyed several musical performances by Grade 10 students, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere for the event.
The first presentation session was delivered by the History and Foster Family Activities group through a short drama portraying life in Cikutamahi Village. The story followed two foreign tourists visiting the village and learning about local occupations, agriculture, and daily life with the help of a tour guide. Through the performance, the audience learned about the villagers' livelihoods, agricultural activities, and local products. The students creatively combined English, Indonesian, and Sundanese to make the presentation both educational and entertaining. The presentation also highlighted the experiences of students living with their foster families and learning directly from the local community.
Next, the Physics and Mathematics group presented Kicau Science, a talk show discussing agricultural technology and irrigation water analysis. Based on interviews with local farmers, including Mr. Sarip, the students found that using machinery significantly improves efficiency. Processing one hectare of farmland requires only about four days with machines, compared to approximately twenty days using animal labor. The students also explained the functions of modern agricultural equipment such as power threshers and Rice Milling Units (RMU), which help farmers save time and reduce crop losses. However, they also highlighted economic challenges, as the cost of renting such machines remains expensive for many farmers.
The group further analyzed irrigation water quality. Through field observations, they discovered an inverse relationship between pH levels and electrical conductivity. By applying linear regression analysis, they demonstrated how mathematics can be used to model environmental conditions and predict their effects on agricultural productivity. Their presentation showed how scientific and mathematical approaches can contribute to solving real-life problems in farming communities.
The Social Studies group then explored the concept of socio-ecological harmony, examining the relationship between people, society, and the environment. Combining perspectives from Sociology and Geography, they analyzed the management of local water sources and the development of community-based ecotourism. Through interviews with foster families and community members, the students learned about both formal and informal social interactions within the village. One example was the local arisan system, which not only serves as a financial activity but also strengthens social bonds among residents through regular gatherings and communication.
The second session, attended primarily by parents and invited guests, featured Ciku Talk, a talk show presented by the History group. Through interviews and personal experiences, the students explored the development of Cikutamahi Village over time. Local residents shared how access to electricity, transportation, education, and communication has improved significantly compared to the past. At the same time, they emphasized that despite modernization, the values of cooperation, togetherness, and community spirit remain strong. Students also observed how villagers diversify their livelihoods through farming, mushroom cultivation, small food businesses, and cassava chip production.
The Economics and Mathematics group presented their research through a drama-based performance. Using a fictional village scenario involving inflation, wage disparities, and corruption, they demonstrated how mathematical models such as regression analysis, can be used to study economic issues. Their findings showed that longer working hours tend to increase profits, although external factors such as weather conditions and crop failures can still affect agricultural income.
The final presentation was delivered by the Science group under the theme “An Expedition into Water Quality and Biodiversity.” The Chemistry team investigated water quality by collecting samples from different sources, including bathing water, drinking water, and irrigation water. Their findings revealed an average pH of 6.86, indicating slightly acidic conditions which remain close to neutral. Meanwhile, the Biology team studied biodiversity across rice fields, rivers, and gardens. They identified various producers, consumers, and decomposers that form interconnected food chains and contribute to ecosystem balance. The students concluded that water quality and biodiversity are closely linked, as healthy water supports living organisms while biodiversity reflects the overall condition of the environment.
Through the Live In program, students gained much more than academic knowledge. By living alongside local families, participating in daily activities, and conducting research directly in the field, they developed empathy, adaptability, and a deeper understanding of rural life. The presentations demonstrated that Live In is not merely a school project, but a meaningful journey that allows students to learn from the community, appreciate different ways of life, and understand how social, economic, historical, and environmental changes shape society.
