Friday, September 25th, 2026 - As the early
morning sun endowed the 12th grade students with its ever bright grace, it also
marked the beginning of today's special activity: a campus tour to the private
university of UBM (short for Universitas Bunda Mulia in Indonesian). Which
began after a brief group photo session and a (totally) short ride to the
campus itself, which is located in Alam Sutera, Serpong District, Banten
Province.
Shortly after arriving, we were
welcomed by the campus representatives, who gave us snacks and a fan. After yet
another briefing, we finally got to do the actual campus tour! UBM offers a
wide range of different facilities to provide the most optimized learning
experience suited to each major: a Digital Media and Sound Design Studio for
art students. The Master Kitchen, which is a lecture room equipped with
extensive 5 star hotel kitchen equipment for culinary students, along with the
UBM Resto which offers controlled hands-on experience for hospitality students.
The Turla Retail Laboratory, which is similar to the previous one, but instead
looks like an actual convenience store for those majoring in management.
Alongside it, there are also two
computer labs, Modern Classes (called such because of their unique styles.
Class 1 is shaped like a cafe, and Class 2 like a meeting room). A wide canteen
area with UBM’s library right above it, where inside aside from books, also
serves as a quiet resting place (there are bean bags), discussion, and hosts
the works of art students, all in one room. And lastly, a very, very large
sports hall. But despite of its name, the indoors room is also often utilized
to host events with a capacity of over a thousand audiences!
We're also taken to a trial class, a management trial class to be exact. Where we get a taste of such a major. In it, one will learn things such as financial investments, creative marketing business strategies and innovations, etc. We're also taught about the BMC, or Business Message Canvas, where one has to take into account the demographic target, channels, customer relationship, value proposition (why should your customer choose your company), partnerships, revenue streams (source of income, mainly from products), and key activities related to PR, production, and R&D. And key resources, which include vital resources which are required to sustain a business, cost structure which is divided into cost (highest income with the lowest costs) and value (luxury) driven types. We are then given the chance to try to apply all of the above through a mock BMC draft chart. Needless to say, it was a worthwhile experience for all involved.
A short while after the trial class, there was a sharing session between us and the education counselor Riyani Suyono, a UBM student expected to graduate this year with an extensive internship and college experience. She told us about the dynamics of enrolling into a university, either state or private. What should be taken into account, such as prices and majors, scholarship opportunities offered by UBM, as well as internships (including overseas partnership), a view over the facilities that the University has.All in all, this campus tour wasn't any mere tour. Along with an introduction to the various facilities, it has also certainly broadened the view of us students to the academic opportunities that's ripe for the picking in this world. While state universities are always the first option, it is becoming increasingly clear that private universities are also capable of offering the same qualities, and some, surpassing even the best state universities out there.
